6 Car Fluids That Are Essential

Fluids play a vital role in keeping your car running as smoothly as possible. Maintaining the car fluids regularly will increase your vehicle’s performance and will also help to keep the repair costs down. Below are 6 fluids that are essential to your car.

Important Car Fluids

  • ENGINE OIL
Engine oil is the most important fluid as it protects the moving part of the engine from getting damaged. You can check the engine oil by pulling the dipstick located at the front of your car. Refill the engine oil if it is below the minimum level and get it replaced if the color has gone from yellow to brown/black.
  • POWER STEERING FLUID
Power steering fluid keeps the internal steering components well lubricated and is responsible for easy and effortless steering. If you notice your vehicle is becoming difficult to steer, you can check the steering fluid the same way you check your engine oil.
  • BRAKE FLUID
Brake fluid is an essential fluid for your car as it directly affects your safety. Without brake fluid your car will not be able to stop when you push the brake pedal. Most cars have a brake fluid reservoir in the engine bay. Make sure it is transparent and falls between the minimum and maximum indicators.
  • TRANSMISSION FLUID
Transmission fluid is responsible for protecting and cooling the components like gears, valves, pumps, etc. Some cars may have a dipstick but others will require a professional mechanic to change the fluid. Transmission fluid should be replaced after every 3 years or 45000 miles.
  • COOLANT
Coolant is a heat transfer fluid that protects your engine from overheating by absorbing the heat. Coolant should be flushed after every 30000 to 50000 miles and make sure the engine is not hot while removing the coolant.
  • WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID
Windshield washer fluid is simply used to clean the windscreen of the vehicle and it is the easiest fluid to change. The washer fluid reservoir is usually located at the back of the engine bay, just top it up and close the cap.

These are the 6 fluids that are essential to your car and should be checked at every oil change interval. Never drive your car with low fluids and before going on long trips make sure all the fluids are filled for better performance and safety.
